Establishment of Patient Accommodation highlights the enormous scale of requirement.
The Leukaemia Society Patient Accommodation was established to provide a home for cancer patients and their carer while in London for treatment. Though small the property is a start we aim to build on.
Unique in concept, the accommodation can best be compared with a residential home without staff. Housework and cooking as well as recreation, are often shared by mutual consent as guests come and go. This has led to a popular description of the accommodation as "A home away from home". The house provides a safe, welcoming and warm home away from home for children receiving medical treatment at a nearby medical facility.
The continuous requests and waiting list for the accommodation has served to highlight the enormous scale of requirement for the service. Funds are constantly needed, not only to expand the service, but to maintain it.
