What is Chemotherapy?

I am really confused my godfather was diagnosed with prostate cancer and was given chemo by pill form, where as a close friend who has leukaemia and going through chemo is doing through injection.

Can someone help me and explain what types of chemotherapy there is so i can be more aware so i can understand more when they speak to me.
