The main rule of entry is that the participating vehicle must have been purchased for, or be worth less than £100, and it must be road worthy. There were approximately 150 cars taking part in the 1,400 mile race.
Staples2Naples, which began in 2003, is now in its 5th year.
As a celebration, the organisers arranged for another of their rallies, the Home2Rome, to run simultaneously. Taking part in this rally were Steve Nicolaou, Michael Peleties and Luke Ioannou
Although Home2Rome took a different route, the two teams started off together in Calais and met up at the end in Rome. Both the teams have selected The Leukaemia Society to receive sponsorship from their participation in the race.
This is the team’s first rally, they were encouraged to sign up by friends who have caught the rally bug. Greg Demosthenous say “We wanted to support a local charity, and being aware of the wonderful work the Leukaemia Society does, made it an obvious choice.”
The team of six send this message to their sponsors:
On behalf of the teams and the Leukaemia society, we would just like to say a massive thank you to all our sponsors who have dug deep to help us raise the money, making this trip worth the effort. We have not finalised numbers but we can safely say that thanks to everyone’s generosity we have raised over £6000.
Donations from the public amount to a large proportion of The Leukaemia Society’s annual revenues, and the charity relies on innovative fundraising activities, such as the Staples2Naples and Home2Rome rallies, to sustain its work.
Recruitment for the Banger Rallies 2009 starts in October 2008.
If you would like to participate in the 2009 rally and raise money for the Leukaemia Society Please Contact Us for further details.
