The final was a huge success, both in terms of showcasing the talent we do have in our community and in the size of the audience who watched the show. The four singing acts, Katerina Neocleous, Anastasia Liberos, Fay Stavrinides and Antigoni Buxton took to the stage and amazed the crowd at the Millfield Theatre with their spectacular voices.
The Celebrity Panel of Judges consisted of singer, actor and Songwriter Peter Polycarpou, BBC 3 DJ Ritu, Former Editor of Hello Magazine Maggie Koumi and Vassilis Panayi of LGR.
Peter Polycarpou said: “It has been brilliant. I have been really impressed by the talent.”
Patrons of The Leukaemia Society (UK) Martha Lewis and Eve Polycarpou were inspired to hold the talent show after the Leukaemia Society (UK) sought their help to create awareness and raise urgently needed funds.
Chairman of the Leukaemia Society Maria Nicolaou said: "We would like to say a big thank you to Martha and Eve who are the key component in the incredible success of British Born Cypriot Idol; we are delighted with the support they have given to the charity. They have demonstrated that a great idea aimed to help a good cause can go on to take the community by storm.
A sincere and very warm thank you to Eve, who despite all she has been through these last few months co hosted the show on the night. Her determination and continued support for the Leukaemia Society throughout highlights her care, love and compassion for those less fortunate.
We were indeed honoured to have secured such an impressive line up of judges. We recognise the tight work schedules faced by these professionals and feel greatly privileged that they volunteered their time and services to the charity.
A big thank you also to Pavlos Doukanaris, Chaz Koshi and the Kkoshi Boys for their guest performances on the night. We are so grateful for the generosity and thoughtfulness of all the businesses and individuals who gave resources, time, and support, our many thanks to the following who have donated the prize package for tonight’s winner, Livingston Studio and Producer Chaz Koshi.
Our thanks are also extended to the Millfield Theatre and all who have contributed in anyway to the success of this event. Last but certainly not least our contestants who impressed us with their great voices, we wish them all great success’.”
It's a safe bet that we can look forward to the 2009 BBC IDOL, so all British Born Cypriots that would like to audition please watch this space for further details.
