The gruelling route took the expedition through tiny mountain villages, along winding paths and through some treacherous terrain. The determined group, all from North London, proudly wore their charity logo as they arrived to the final point after an 11-day trek through the Himalayas.
One of the group, 25 year old Theodosia Stylianou shares her experience:
"The term "life changing" is used so often to describe major challenges we put ourselves through, but after experiencing the challenge first-hand I finally understand what it means. Nothing can compare to rising from camp sites, trekking across unspoilt lands and meeting local rural children whom are leading a life you never knew still existed.
Though the trip was for charity, this was no walk in the park.
It was exhausting but it was really worthwhile. I was generally fine but it was on the second day that I suffered from altitude sickness, I thought this is it but thankfully it was not so severe to stop me from continuing.
We were so high up that everything looked different. The moon looked different, the stars looked different and you were overshadowed by the vast mountains. The environment looks so beautiful, the scenery so breathtaking, that it almost takes you away.
The Expedition was one of the most difficult things I have ever attempted, but I came away from it stronger as an individual because I had to face down physical and emotional challenges which took me to my own edges and beyond. Having raised all that money made me more determined than ever to repay the faith that everyone had in me. The Himalayan experience will stay with me forever, because of the friendship, scenery and all the laughter. Never laughed so much in my life! Everybody was great and looked out for each other, I look forward to the reunion!”
A spokesperson for The Leukaemia Society said:
“Nothing but tremendous good comes from undertaking these challenges and everyone should do one for their own benefit, society's benefit and of course, The Leukaemia Society (UK). Thank you so much to the group, it’s wonderful that they have raised so much money and awareness for the charity and of course, had such fun doing it. Thank you also to all their sponsors.”
