Launch of Cancer Disscussion Forum

3 January 2010
The successful launch of LETS TALK, a discussion forum run by The Leukaemia Society UK, took place on 8th December at the Penridge Banqueting Suite, Arnos Grove, North London.
LETS TALK is a fantastic, innovative online resource, with a primary purpose of allowing those affected by cancer to share their experiences and gain support from reading the experiences of others.
We were pleased to welcome some distinguished guests and great friends of the society, Patron of the Leukaemia Society Dr Petros Karayiannis, TV Presenter Tonia Buxton, Media representatives Vasilis Panayi and Kyriacos Tsoupra,  the sponsors of LETS TALK the Ladies Philanthropic Association of Finchley and Barnet, and many others. Our special guest and speaker was Patron of the Charity Dr Pantelis Theocharous.
The evening started off with refreshments, before the Chairman of the charity, Maria Nicolaou welcomed all present and gave a short talk about The Leukaemia Society and the planned events for the year 2010.
Dr Theocharous then gave a short presentation on leukaemia and bone marrow transplants, the working of the forum and how he believes it will benefit patients their families and carers.
Also speaking were  Registered Dietician, Kyriacos Shiamtanis and Forum Designer Akis Vasiliou.
Vice Chairman of the charity Harry Christoforou gave an intriguing insight into his experience as a bone marrow donor. Amongst the audience was Jessica Rimmington who also gave a fascinating account of her experience as a stem cell donor encouraging people to go ahead and join the Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Register.
The speeches were followed by a very interesting Q&A session about various relative topics, followed by some great talks with People.  The evening ended with the presentation of a thank you Plaque to the Sponsors of LETS TALK.
We would like to thank The Penridge for donating the use of their venue, Aroma Patisserie for donating all the refreshments and, LGR, Parikiaki and Eleftheria for helping promote the event and everyone who contributed to the success of this event.
