Talent Show Final

14 May 2010
Millfield Theatre was packed to capacity on Sunday 2nd May, for the BBC IDOL (British Born Cypriot) talent show final.

The show organised and hosted by Martha and Eve was a phenomenal success. Patrons of the Leukaemia Society, Martha and Eve were accompanied on stage by the Great bouzouki player Pavlos doukanaris and Music producer Chaz Kkoshi.
There were also guest appearances by Dance Revolution and Antigoni Buxton winner of last year’s show.
The organisers were amazed by the wealth of talent in our community. Many auditioned and it was very difficult reducing the shortlist for the evening to only four. George Hadjimichael,Louisa Evangelou, Augustina Savas and Eleni Christofi.
The singers performed on stage in front of a celebrity judging panel consisting of Singer/Actor Peter Polycarpou, Saprano Katerina Mina, DJ Ritu and Vasilis Panayi of LGR, who were bowled over by the high standard of the contestants.
The judges and the audience selected two finalists – Augusdina Savas and Louisa Evangelou. The contest was very close, but Louisa won after she wowed the audience and judges with their performance of Halo.
The show ended in grand style as Martha and Eve were joined on stage by the contestants and guest singers to sing ‘Thank You for Today (Aman, So be)’. A song written by Eve Polycarpou and released to raise funds for the Leukaemia society.
Feedback from the event has been fantastic!
“One of the events I most look forward to each year! Martha Lewis and Eve Polycarpou not only dazzled us with their brilliant vocals and harmonies, but also their perfect hosting skills. Yet again, the standard of the teenage contestants was jaw-droppingly high and it was very difficult to pick out an overall winner. The feelgood factor just stays for days afterwards. I felt sooo good I even had to resist the urge to sing along to 'Zoom' by Fat Larry's Band in my cab afterwards!” DJ Ritu

“Congratulations on a GREAT show, I enjoyed every minute of it.”  Katerina Mina (Sapano)
“Great night – Bravo! Very well organised –Genuinely entertaining – Very high standard! Keep up the good work....!” Antony Alexandrou (Forcefed Media)
Maria Nicolaou, Chairman of The Leukaemia Society Said "whilst this is something positive and inspirational, it is a poignant and unfortunate reminder of the existence of leukaemia. Martha and Eve are fantastic people to work with to raise awareness of the disease, particularly amongst the younger generation. We are pleased to be involved with such inspirational people.  Each year, the show gets better and better with increased endorsement from a variety of talented stars. Leukaemia is a very important issue that needs to be addressed. We want to thank Martha and Eve for taking the initiative to use their experience in the music industry to highlight the condition and also help raise funds for the charity. We are honoured to have such a celebrated panel of judges. Each judge brings a unique perspective to the panel. We recognise the tight work schedules faced by these professionals and feel greatly privileged that they have volunteered their time and services to the charity. A big thank you also to Chaz Koshi, Pavlos Doukanaris and last year’s winner Antigone Buxton  and Dance Revolution for their guest performances tonight. The generosity of all the businesses and individuals who gave resources, time and support has been fantastic, we thank them all. Our many thanks also to Livingston Studios and Chaz Koshi who have donated the prize package for tonight’s winner. Our thanks are also extended to our sound engineer Debbie Dickenson, Alwyne Taylor, the backstage team Fran, Poly and Alison, Millfield Theatre, all who have advertised in this program and all who have helped with the organisation, or who have contributed in any way to the success of this event. Last but certainly not least our contestants, we wish them all great success”.
